Design Dispatch No. 02
Feeling nostalgic about my favorite restaurant as a kid. If I could pinpoint some sort of early design awakening or enlightenment, this would be the place where I found it. It was magical, and different from any other place I had experienced. Sundowners Restaurant- memories and remnants of the past:
1. Sparkling, glittery popcorn ceilings. Truly magical.
2. Old, dreamy black and white western photos
3. The warm glow of spanish revival style pendant lights
4. Floor to ceiling wood paneling
5. Long guns mounted on the walls
6. Dinners served sizzling on a hot pewter plate, with a slice of crispy cheese toast on the side
7. Red drinking glasses that I would sit and look at the lights through
8. Oxblood leather booths that felt grand and opulent
9. A restaurant, designed around a cattle ranching movie from the 1950s, somehow translating to a sense of wonder for a kid in the 1980s.
